Izan Guevara, Moto3 champion in style

MADRID, 16 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish rider Izan Guevara (GasGas) has been proclaimed Moto3 world champion after winning, ahead of the Turkish Deniz Öncü (KYM) and his teammate Sergio García Dols, the Australian Grand Prix race, in which he started seventh to go back to the title number 56 of Spanish motorcycling in the World Cup.

The Spaniard took out the calculator at Phillip Island, climbed up to second place in just four laps and soon got rid of one of his main rivals, the Italian Denis Foggia (Honda), who was cut off from the front group after a few laps. Only García Dols and the Japanese Ayumu Sasaki (Husqvarna) were left alive in the fight for the title.

It was enough for Guevara to be second, but he was not satisfied. He had a nice duel with the one from Burriana in the last laps and finally took him to become the 23rd Spanish driver world champion. With 290 points in his locker, the Spaniard secured the title ahead of García Dols (225 points) who will try to claim the runner-up position ahead of Foggia (223) and Sasaki (207).

In addition, David Muñoz (KTM), Carlos Tatay (CFMoto), Iván Ortolá (KTM), Xavi Artigas (CFMoto) and Jaume Masià (KTM) took the positions between tenth and fifteenth, while Adrián Fernández was eighteenth and Ana Carrasco (KTM), twenty-third. Dani Holgado (KTM) failed to finish.

A LIFE SURROUNDED BY MOTORCYCLES

With six wins, eleven podiums, two fastest laps and four pole positions, Izan Guevara (June 28, 2004) has been crowned world champion for the first time, a fulfilled dream that has been around his head since he climbed for the first time at just two years old. once on a motorcycle encouraged by his parents, Marga and Toni.

At six, little Izan became part of the Balearic Federation school and began to compete in Minibikes, a category in which he got his first podium. In 2012, at the age of eight, he started in the Cradle of Champions, and after that he rose to the MiniGP 110 category and was fighting for the title with rivals with whom he continues to compete today, such as Dani Holgado, Pedro Acosta or Adrián Fernández . After a year, he managed, in 2014, to win the title of champion in this category.

His effort and dedication led him to become champion of the European Talent Cup in 2019 after achieving six consecutive victories in the championship. His progress continued and he began to prepare for the Moto3 Junior World Championship, already with the Aspar Team.

After being eighth and thirteenth in the two races in Portugal, in Jerez, where he had been crowned champion the previous year, he started a streak of eight consecutive podiums, five of them victories, and won the title of Moto3 junior world champion.

At the age of 16, he made his debut in the Moto3 category in the World Championship with the GASGAS Aspar Team and finished the season in the ‘Top 10’, also achieving his first victory in the Grand Prix of the Americas.

2022 was going to be his year. After a discreet eighth position in Qatar, in Indonesia he signed his first podium of the year. The podiums in Jerez, France, Italy, Catalonia, Germany and Assen allowed him to rise to second place in the standings, just three points behind his teammate, Sergio García Dols.

After a fall at Silverstone, he returned to the box at Misano to take the lead overall for the first time. The victories in Aragón and Japan allowed him to gain momentum and move away from the rest of his pursuers to arrive in Australia for the first time with the opportunity to close the title, the third of his career in four years.
