It’s not clear what will happen with Kadarius Toney and Kansas City.
The Chiefs thought they had gotten a great deal when they traded for receiver Kadarius Toney during the 2022 season.
Toney had the skills to become their top receiver, and his rookie contract was very cheap because it still had more than two years due on its original four-year term.
It’s a good question to know if Toney is going to play against the Chiefs again. He has missed six games in a row as of Sunday. Toney made a big mistake that led to a Patriots interception in that Week 15 victory over them.
His only game since then is the one where he was offside during the famous catch-and-lateral from tight end Travis Kelce that would have been Toney’s possible game-winning touchdown.
The scariest sign about his future with the team is that he went from being questionable on Saturday because of a hip injury to being out against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship for “personal reasons.”
There is every reason for the Chiefs to give him one last chance to move his career in the right direction.
Even though he’s dropped balls and made other mistakes, they’ve kept giving him chances. Those extra chances come from having a lot of raw talent.
But at some point, enough is enough. It took the Giants a year and a half and only twelve regular-season games to come to that end.
This could be what the Chiefs think after a year and a half as well as 20 regular-season games.
Toney has played in 26 percent of all offensive snaps across the 2023 games he has been in. In 2023, he only caught 27 passes for 169 yards, which is an average of only 6.3 yards per catch.
Kadarius Toney, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, went on social media to disagree with the team’s report that he hurt his hip and would not be able to play in the AFC Championship match against the Baltimore Ravens.
Toney will not play with the Chiefs when they play the Ravens in the AFC Championship game on Sunday afternoon.
It wasn’t likely that Toney would play a big role anyway, since he’s been bad for Mahomes, in particular, and his team this season.
The Chiefs bought Toney so that he could be an offensive Swiss Army knife. Instead, his stats point to him being like Mecole Hardman, and his mistakes on the field have made things harder for his teammates.
He had to defend himself, and Travis Kelce had to do the same. This should have represented a moment of victory. In a short Instagram Live rant, Toney vehemently denied being hurt and accused his teammates of lying about his health.
Toney says on Instagram that the Chiefs have lied about his injury. Toney appeared “out,” though, in part because his twin daughters had been delivered on Saturday night.
The best thing that can happen now is that Kansas City may negotiate to terminate his contract during the summer if they want to.
The Chiefs will be glad that Toney won’t be a distraction on the field this week. They can only think about the Ravens and making it to the playoffs again. Toney doesn’t quite see it that way, though.
For Kansas City’s sake, they might not find out about this until the 3 p.m. ET game against the Ravens. Stopping Baltimore QB Lamar Jackson is not one of the most important things that needs to be done.
This video is not going to make things better for Toney with the Chiefs’ front office. Even though Toney’s deal lasts until 2024, KC can get out of it during the summer if they want to. It’s going to cost them a little more than $2.5 million.
Anyone who accuses the Chiefs of lying about Toney’s injury should be taken with a grain of salt. Toney was on the list of people who couldn’t play because of personal issues.
The birth of his child is a good enough reason for him to miss every game, even a playoff game.
It was Kadarius Toney’s first practice as a professional, and something wasn’t right at rookie minicamp on this sunny spring afternoon.
The New York Giants traded back and selected the wide receiver as the 20th pick in the NFL draft two weeks ago. He was sitting on the sidelines, trying to adjust his right cleat.
He switched out his cleats. He put on socks. He got rid of them. He sat down, got up, went back to drills, and then came back out.
It seemed like a long practice process before he finally left early. During a drill on the diagnostics practice field, Toney was carrying a football while running up and down the agility ladder with only one cleat on.
He later said that Toney did have the “wrong size” cleats. Afterward, one coach tried to say that Toney hadn’t worn socks at his school in Florida. It was too tight for him when he wore socks with these new cleats.
