MUNICH (GERMANY), 14 Aug. (dpa/EP) –
The Italian cyclist Letizia Paternoster suffers a head injury and a fracture in the right clavicle as a result of a strong crash during the elimination race of the European Track Cycling Championship, the Italian federation reported this Sunday.
The statement ensures that the world champion was admitted to the hospital all night after the incident during the test. Paternoster was among five cyclists involved who crashed on the opening stage of Saturday’s race in Munich and were treated on the track for around 20 minutes before being taken to hospital on a stretcher.
“I broke my collarbone in three parts and hit my head,” the 23-year-old athlete explained on her official Instagram social network account this Sunday. “I try to smile and I try to think about my next goals,” she continued.
Meanwhile, the Italian Cycling Federation assured that Paternoster did not remember the incident but that this fact “is normal in such circumstances.”
