Fernando Torres, youth team coach Atletico Madrid, acknowledged that it is “difficult to accept” the heavy defeat suffered this Friday against the salzburg Austrian (5-0) in the semifinals of the Youth Champions League.
“It’s a goal that we had set for ourselves at the beginning of the season, at first it was a way to stimulate the boys, but during the course of the competition we believed it was possible and we fought for it until the end,” he said. Torres in statements to Efe.
In his reading of the match, the athletic trainer highlighted the physical superiority of his rival and acknowledged that his team “did not enter the match well.”
“The first goal weighed us down a lot, then with the penalty everything was uphill for us, they are a team that knows how to play very well to defend the result”, explained Torres, who acknowledged not having seen the controversial penalty from the bench .
“The result will be difficult to forget and will affect the rest of the competitions, since we had a lot of hope for this tournament, but the boys have to learn to manage that frustration, we have to get up and focus on the league,” he said. Torres.
“We are very proud of them, we would not change a single player from this team for any of the finalists, we all lose together, it is our responsibility and we have to assume it, but they have to be very proud of their season”, he concluded.
The Atletico Madrid will now focus on Ligain which he leads the table, and if he wins it he will access the Champions League.
