The USTA announced this Wednesday that the US Open 2020 wheelchair tennis competition will take place from September 10 to 13 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center from the USTA in Flushing Meadows, New York, their traditional place on the tournament calendar.
The decision was made after multiple virtual meetings with a group of wheelchair tennis players and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in the past week. The wheelchair competition will feature men's and women's singles and doubles, and quadruple singles and doubles, with draw sizes similar to previous editions.
Wheelchair tennis players will follow the same health and safety procedures as all players participating in the US Open and will be able to access the USTA's Billie Jean King National Tennis Center beginning September 7.
The ITF is carefully reviewing the impact of this evolving situation related to the award of wheelchair classification points and a decision is expected to be announced in the coming days. The decision to recapture the chair tournament comes after the USTA received harsh criticism for its initial exclusion from the 2020 calendar.
