Ireland retains the Six Nations by beating Scotland

MADRID, 16 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Irish rugby team was proclaimed champion of the Six Nations this Saturday by beating (17-13) on the last day against a rocky Scotland, which withstood the Irish push until the final minutes in search of retaining the title in Dublin.

Ireland brought forward the celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day, which will be this Sunday the 17th, with a new Six Nations that was close to being undefeated like last year’s. The ‘in extremis’ defeat against England last week prevented it but, after falling in the quarterfinals of the last World Cup, the Irish claimed their moment.

After their good victories against Italy, France and Wales, the finish came against a very tough Scotland that, however, made just the right mistakes where the champion slipped in. Andrew Porter and Dan Sheehan were decisive against the Scots, who were seeking their prize in the Triple Crown against the British teams.

Sheehan scored the only try of the first half and gave Ireland a minimal advantage. The locals charged the Scottish defensive line with everything until that try by Porter, with excitement until the end after Huw Jones pulled one back for Scotland.
