Inter draw against Monaco and Lukaku is still without scoring

After opening the pre-season with a 1-4 win against Swiss side Lugano, today Inter had to settle for a draw (2-2) in the second try against Monaco at the Paolo Mazza stadium in Ferrara.

Inter, despite their attacking tandem LuLa (Lukaku-Lautaro) at the start, was surprised by a quick goal from Aleksandr Golovin, who was unmarked by Wissam Ben Yedder and beat goalkeeper Samir Handanovic in the 8th minute.

Half an hour into the game it was 0-2, the work of Ben Yedder when he finished off a perfectly executed counterattack without Handanovic being able to prevent the goal.

Inter’s reaction

Inter reacted in the closing minutes of the first half by pulling one back through Roberto Gagliardini after goalkeeper Alexander Nübel parried a header from Danilo D’Ambrosio (41′). Lautaro Martínez still had time to equalize before the break but his shot was repelled by the crossbar (45′).

After the break there were chances in both areas. Takumi Minamino (47′) and Jean Lucas (52′) came close to making it 1-3, but Lautaro responded with a header that missed the target (55′).

It was the prelude to 2-2. Romelu Lukaku, who has just returned to Inter after a disappointing year at Chelsea, shot poorly, but another newcomer, Kristjan Asllani, picked up the ball and leveled with a fine low shot (59′).

Lukaku and Lautaro retire

After this goal, Simone Inzaghi completely changed the team, including a Lukaku who has not scored since his return to Inter and a Lautaro who scored a brace against Lugano.

The equality was maintained. André Onana, another Inter reinforcement, avoided the Monegasque goal by repelling the shots by Minamino and Gelson Martins (78′) on the same play, while Hakan Çalhanoglu had the last Italian chance.
