Injured and 3 arrested after fight between fans of Unión Magdalena and Junior

A Colombian fan who attended the match between Unión Magdalena and Junior de Barranquilla on Saturday died today as a result of the injuries he suffered after being stabbed during the fight between fans of both teams.

The match between Unión Magdalena and Junior de Barranquilla, which was played on Saturday in Santa Marta as part of matchday 17 of the Colombian league, had to be suspended in the second half when a fight broke out in the stands between fans that brought As a result, one death, several injuries and three arrests.

The beginning of the incidents

The fights began after the 72nd minute of the match between people located in the north and east stands who had previously threatened to start the disturbances.

The situation got out of control and the fans entered the field of play and interrupted the match that the two teams tied 1-1 and that was never resumed.

The organizers asked over the loudspeaker that the chairs not be pulled out, while the police in the field tried to put the situation in order.

The victim

One of the injured, a fan of Unión Magdalena identified as Brandon Gustavo Somosa, died this Sunday at a clinic in the city of Santa Marta where he was transferred after receiving several stab wounds during the riots, according to local police.

“How sad that they cannot enjoy soccer in peace,” said the mayor of Santa Marta, Virna Johnson, who reported on her Twitter account of the three detainees and that a reward of five million pesos (1,300 pesos) was going to be given. dollars) to whom he gives information about those responsible.

The Union Magdalena, again involved

It is not the first time that situations of this nature have been experienced in Colombian football, since last February fans of the Unión Magdalena also invaded the field in a match against Atlético Bucaramanga, after which the samarios received an economic sanction and the Disciplinary Committee decided to settle the match with a 0-3 in favor of the Santanderean club.

The Unión Magdalena tribune was also sanctioned with six dates without assistance for its behavior, although the sanctions may now be greater due to the magnitude of the fights.
