Infanta Sofía, “just like” Princess Leonor, will study at the boarding school in Wales

“Infanta Sofía has also satisfactorily submitted to the entire selection process required by the Spanish Committee of the United World Colleges Foundation (UWC Spain)”. This has been communicated by Casa Real this Monday, February 6, through a note that it has published on its website. The youngest daughter of the Kings thus follows the path of her sister, who this May will finish her studies at the boarding school, so they will not coincide together in the classrooms of the Castle of St Donat, in the Vale of Glamorgan (Wales).

The Kings Felipe VI and Letizia have announced that “Her Royal Highness the Infanta Sofía, like the Princess of Asturias, will take the International Baccalaureate study program at the UWC Atlantic College in Wales, United Kingdom”. There will be two courses. “Her incorporation of her to the school is scheduled between the end of August and the beginning of September. Sofia will also reside, like the Princess of Asturias, in accordance with the boarding regime,” the statement continues.

“The cost of the international baccalaureate will also be paid in full personally by Their Majesties the King and Queen with their annual allowance and amounts to 74,000 pounds sterling for the two courses,” reports Casa Real.

The academic program is developed in two academic years (2023-24 and 2024-25) and includes science and literature subjects. This program is completed “with a common interdisciplinary course”, informs Casa Real, on “theory of knowledge, a research monograph, as well as a special creativity programme”. The field of arts includes theater, music; and there is also a great presence of sports, which Sofía is very fond of. One of the most important activities of the United World Colleges network is volunteering. The infanta’s program also includes “an activity that implies a service to the community, such as support in local schools, work with children with intellectual disabilities, the elderly, first aid, maintenance of nearby coasts and forests, control of pollution rates environment, care and recovery of animal species, maritime rescue, coast guard, etc.”
