MADRID, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Athletic Club striker Iñaki Williams will play with the Ghana team, the country of his parents’ birth, as a way to meet his “roots” and to be able to play in the next World Cup in Qatar in the absence of calls from the absolute Spanish team .
“The time has come to find my roots, myself and all that Africa and Ghana mean to my family and me. I want to give back a small part of what it has given us and what it has contributed to me as a person, like a son, like a brother”, confirmed the footballer himself in a video published on his social networks.
In this sense, he affirmed that “a great challenge” begins for him. “From today I will defend the Ghana shirt with my values as a flag, leaving my skin every minute and always giving the best of me. I am one more of ‘The Black Stars'”, he pointed out.
“Each step we take in life has a meaning, an evolution, a look to the future that in turn leaves a mark, a legacy… My parents have always instilled in me values based on humility, respect and love They have taught me the way I have to face life in that constant struggle to continue growing and working to improve as a person and as a professional,” he added.
The 28-year-old striker, for years a fixture of the U-21 team, made his debut with the senior team, although not in an official match, on May 29, 2016 in a friendly match against Bosnia at the hands of Vicente del Bosque.
In this way, Williams opens the door to play the World Cup in Qatar with Ghana, after not receiving the call from Luis Enrique in the calls offered so far by the Asturian coach.
