Iñaki Williams denounces racist insults at RCDE Stadium

MADRID, 25 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Athletic Club striker Iñaki Williams has revealed that he has received racist insults from the stands of RCDE Stadium during the game that the Basque team has played against RCD Espanyol (1-1), an incident that has left him “sad” and that it should not be re-produced.

“I'm going a little sad for the tie and especially because I have suffered racist insults. It is something that no black player or any race wants to hear, that is totally out of place,” the player said in statements to the official media from the Bilbao club.

Williams, the son of Ghanaian parents, was replaced by Raúl García in the 69th minute of the duel at Cornellà-El Prat; It was at that moment when he heard the racist insults, and asked his partner Iker Muniain to communicate it to the Murcian collegiate José María Sánchez Martínez. However, the game continued.

In addition, Williams indicated that fans should be able to enjoy without having to experience these incidents. “People have to come to the stadium to enjoy, to cheer on their team. Football is a sport of friendship, team, and the truth is that it has been a bit sad. You do not have to produce these events,” he concluded.

The only game suspended for insults in the Spanish league has been Rayo Vallecano-Albacete of the 20th day of this season in the LaBiga SmartBank, when referee José Antonio López Toca decided that the second part in Vallecas not be played by the chants from “fucking nazi” to the Ukrainian player of the visiting team Roman Zozulia.
