In the NLCS against the Diamondbacks, the Phillies’ season comes to an unbelievable end as the postseason magic fades.

PHILADELPHIA – There was a Tuesday in October in Citizens Bank Park that gave the impression the Phillies would win.

Their season came to an unthinkable conclusion at Citizens Bank Park on the following Tuesday night in October.

This week, whatever postseason magic remained in South Philadelphia vanished completely.

In philadelphia best-of-seven National League Championship Series, the Phillies led 3-2 and had two opportunities to win in their home stadium, where they had won 6-0 earlier in October.

The home team’s important moments versus the Arizona Diamondbacks in Games 6 and 7 in the NLCS never happened.

The atmosphere in the audience of more than 45,000 changed from confident to angry to sad as the outs mounted in Game 7.

The stars of the Phillies were weakly contacting the ball or striking out. Slithering and stealing their way toward the National League pennant, the Snakes were unmarried.

It wasn’t supposed to be the Phillies’ second trip through the World Series, which was inevitable given that they had taken a 2-0 lead in the series after winning Game 2 on Tuesday.

In 2023, the Phillies produced a lot of unforgettable events, including a dramatic NLDS victory over the 104-win rival Braves.

However, this October has always felt like the journey was just as important as the objective, especially after their unexpected run in the World Series of 2022. The Phillies failed to arrive.

Right fielder Nick Castellanos stated, “It’s a disappointing way for the regular season to end, considering the potential of this team is far greater than going away before the World Series.” “Obviously, we were sad that we didn’t win the entire thing last year.

However, there was also a lot of “well, we got here, all right.” We may now expand on that. Therefore, it’s a repulsive feeling, to be honest, knowing what we felt about this group and falling short of the things we accomplished the year before.”

There were no hits. In the initial two games in the series, the Phillies scored fifteen runs; in the remaining five games, they only scored fifteen more.

In Games 3-6, as a team, they batted.197. At home in Games 6 and 7, Trea Turner & Bryce Harper went 0 for 15.

With the tying run on base in the eighth inning of Game 7, they both harmlessly flied out in their penultimate at-bats of the season.

After joining Reggie Jackson among the October record books, Castellanos finished the series 0 for 23.

The pitching also declined. In Game 3, the Phillies were ahead 1-0 in the seventh inning. Since then, the series’ Philadelphia pitchers who weren’t Zack Wheeler have posted a 5.02 ERA.

Craig Kimbrel was accused of giving up the game-winning run in consecutive games, and Rob Thomson was found to have stopped hitting the right bullpen buttons.

For the first time in the postseason, runners crossing the plate and traffic on the bases caused problems for Aaron Nola with Ranger Suárez.

Eventually, for Zack Wheeler’s first bullpen appearance in his big league career, the Phillies resorted to their ace.

Had Thomson gone to Wheeler during the fifth instead of allowing Ranger Suárez, the starter, to attempt to get through one more inning, it might have mattered more.

Instead, Suárez gave up two runs, giving the Diamondbacks a 3-2 lead that they would never relinquish.

The youthful Diamondbacks, who managed to qualify for the postseason as the last NL wild card with a record of 84-78, successfully recovered from an early 0-2 deficit in the NLCS.

In Philadelphia, where the reigning National League champions were 12-2 in the previous two postseasons, and 11-0 in NL playoff games, they prevailed in Games 6 and 7.

Manager of Arizona Torey Lovullo remarked, “I’ve said is a million certain points, and I’ll say it again: A linked team makes for a very dangerous team.” “These guys stayed together through all of those difficult times.”

For the unexpected NL pennant winners, rookie pitcher Brandon Pfaadt pitched five scoreless innings on one-hit ball while striking out seven batters and five relievers in total.

Kyle Schwarber, slugger for the Phillies, remarked, “They played great baseball.” There’s no avoiding it. Everybody feels as though they are experiencing nausea. It’s not how we had imagined this to finish.
