In search of a coach after thanking Marcelino

Athletic is currently without a coach for next season. Nor is there a president to use at the head of the rojiblanco club, since Aitor Elizegi is already only part of the so-called management commission. The red and white entity is immersed in the middle of the electoral period.

Marcelino’s departure has provoked all kinds of reactions and comments in the Athletic environment. The Asturian coach had a renewal offer on the table, but, as he himself was in charge of explaining, he did not want to accept it given the change that will be experienced both at the presidency level and in the sports management itself. If Elizegi’s board of directors had followed, the rojiblanco club would still have a coach today.

Marcelino, more or less directly, has made it clear that he has not felt like the first option for two of the three candidates for the Ibaigane chair. With Jon Uriarte, the last to jump into the electoral arena, he spoke after having made his decision to leave Athletic. The name of the future coach, therefore, will be an asset to take into account at the time of the vote of the partners.

triple thanks

From the three candidacies for the presidency of the Bilbao club they made their opinion clear regarding the decision adopted by Marcelino. The one from Barkala, the first of them to come to the fore, left the following message on social networks. “The temporary circumstances of the electoral campaign, together with the difficulties inherent to our condition as pre-candidates, have made it impossible to guarantee the extension of this sports project. Eskerrik asko Marcelino and the best of luck in the future”.

Arechabaleta’s candidacy was more concise in his message on this matter. “Bihotz-bihotzez, eskerrik asko Marcelino, Ruben, Isma, Sergio, Bruno, Alberto, Pablo, Jose! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your dedication and work”, he wrote via twitter with Athletic’s own farewell video to the coach and his collaborators.

Jon Uriarte’s candidacy, meanwhile, indicated “Eskerrik asko, Marcelino! Your farewell words show love for our institution and the people who make it up. As a group of members who make up this candidacy, we appreciate your professionalism and work in our Athletic. You are part of our history and surely a part of your heart and that of your technical team will always be red-and-white”.
