“I’m proud of the ‘reds and faggots’, but now I don’t have to bother those who don’t think like me”

Jorge Javier Vazquez today premieres the nineteenth edition of Big Brotherthe father of all reality shows. Mediaset is once again betting on this format in its version with anonymous contestants, whose identity will be revealed tonight in Telecinco’s prime time. The participants will join Maica, who was chosen live during the GH press conference at the FesTVal in Vitoria.

“People are very excited about this edition”says Jorge Javier, who spoke to the media after surprising this young woman from Murcia who was in shock when the presenter said that she was one of the chosen ones.

“We have all lost the ability to get excited. We are too professionalized. When we see an emotion so close, it still impacts us and that is what is important about television, that it moves you,” he says about that moment he lived with Maica. “We have to go back to being spectators, sitting in front of the television to watch television. The more you read, the more you know about television, and that goes against enjoyment,” analyzes Vázquez, who a few days ago was on everyone’s lips for his tense interview with Ana Rosa that left the viewers who watched that day glued to the television. TardeAR.

Your interview with Ana Rosa had a lot of truth in it, the viewer didn’t know how it was going to end. Did you experience it like that?

Ana Rosa and I have known each other for 30 years. We have a very special connection, because we have experienced many things together, both professionally and personally. Of course, over the course of so many years working together… A very loving relationship is forged. Then we have disagreements.

Has this interview changed your relationship in any way? Has it brought you closer together or has it driven you further apart?

Not far away. Probably joining together.

Have you called each other after? Have you whatssapeado?

Yes, yes. I am that Xelo Montesinos [CEO de Unicorn y socia de Ana Rosa] I met her as a writer of testimonies Taste of thewhich was brought from Valencia. If those nights could talk…

Were you aware that you were starring in a great television moment?

You never know how people at home are going to take it. I mean, what worried me was that they were saying ‘how exciting, how exciting’. I told her that, and it’s true, because the day before, I was in the kitchen at home and I thought: ‘Have I ever been angry with her?’ I swear, it’s been a year and I still don’t remember. What I love about this is that I didn’t remember anything, and I’m telling you that for real.

Do you think Mediaset has veered to the right ideologically?

At no time have I been given any directives at all. I can expressly do so freely.

The phrase “reds and faggots” [la frase que dijo en Sálvame] It took its toll on you with Vasile, as you yourself later acknowledged.

With Vasile, of course. But we’re not talking about Marx either. It’s one of the phrases I’m most proud of in my entire professional career, because I crack up. I even find it funny. It’s like a joke. I take a lot of importance away from that phrase, and especially from the moment in which it happened.

Do you feel free to say something like that now?

Yes. What happens is that I think that the pandemic was a very special moment in our lives, it shook us all and affected us. We all, in some way, expressed ourselves ideologically. I do not regret expressing myself at that very special moment when all Spaniards were so knocked out. What I would consider a mistake would be to continue with the same thing now, because as a presenter my obligation is to contribute to avoiding polarization. I have learned that, if I am doing an entertainment program, I do not have to bother people who do not think like me. But it also happens to me that when I see a presenter who does not think like me and makes comments, I think ‘fuck, what now?’. But that’s it, we have all stripped ourselves ideologically.

In life, from the moment we get up until we go to bed, everything is political. But activism can also be done in other ways. For example, in Jorge’s diary One can question the behaviour of the guests. But let’s see, what does it mean for me, at this point in my career, at five in the afternoon, to say whether I am in favour of amnesty or not?

The shadow of Mercedes Milá as presenter of GH is still present. Has she written to you? Have you spoken?

Shadows… These things are very clichés. For me, Mercedes Milá is one of my favourite presenters. How many editions did she do? 16? Do you think that someone who is even minimally intelligent can go out and present thinking that they are going to overshadow Mercedes Milá?

How do you rate the audience for El diario de Jorge?

As expected in the situation we are in. To be honest, what I like about all this is that we are able to do the training The programme is really favourable conditions, because people are focused on other things. The Olympic Games happen every four years and we forget what it means. And then I was surprised by the Vuelta. But I didn’t know that, because I’m usually on holiday. We have stage finishes from 16:00 to 17:30… (laughs). But anyway, I’m an optimist.
