“I’m not going to whitewash the image of a corrupt person”

Early this morning we woke up to the news of the death of Julián Muñozwho died in the early hours of Tuesday 24 September at the age of 76 after suffering from a “galloping” lung cancer, as he himself defined it. His years of corruption in Marbella, his betrayal of Mayte Zaldívar, his relationship with Isabel Pantoja and the time spent in prison for all three are being remembered in all the talk shows.

Isabel Rábago, this morning in The critical gazerecalled his years in Marbella, where he covered the Malaya case as a journalist: “I landed in Marbella a week before Operation Malaya broke out and I came across all the characters, especially Julián Muñoz. Today the symbol of corruption dies for me“We say goodbye to a character who exhibited Spanish corruption as if it were real pornography.”

For Rábago, it is unacceptable that at this time the figure of a corrupt person of the calibre of Muñoz, who has died without repaying the 46 million euros he owed to the people of Marbella, is being sanctified: “The story is told in a sentence. A sentence that described the modus operandi of this entire gang that turned Marbella into its own private enterprise. I don’t think we should gloss over the image of a corrupt person. I will never do that.“.

On whether Isabel Pantoja’s ex died regretting his actions, as he said, he said: “Did he die repentant? Well, that’s what happens when you’re at death’s door.If I had been sorry I would have taken other measures. He was not Jesus Gil’s errand boy. He was a person who acted as a corrupt person and boasted of being a corrupt person.“.

And he insisted: “I’m not going to make up this figureI pursued him for a long time, many months and many years for a thousand reasons. I got along great with him, but he was corrupt.“.

The posthumous interview

Following the death of the former mayor of Marbella, Telecinco has announced a posthumous interview with Julián Muñoz that will be broadcast this Wednesday and is presented as a “special edition of From Friday” with Santi Acosta. It should be remembered that a couple of weeks ago the interview that was thought to be his last on the same program was broadcast But to the surprise of the viewer, he kept another one in the drawer, which he asked to be broadcast after his death, and which was made by the presenter of the same program.

The presenter was this Tuesday afternoon at the Marbella funeral home where Muñoz’s remains rest before being cremated this Wednesday morning. He connected with TardeAR and Rábago told her: “Congratulations on the interview. Tomorrow we will all be in front.” However, the journalist began to question: “There is a legal reality. How different is the reality that he told you in that interview from the legal reality that we all know by heart?”.

Acosta responded: “He accepts the legal reality. He admits his crimes”However, Rábago has insisted: “Is there a version B that he hasn’t told because he couldn’t at the time? “Are you surprised? I know Malaya by heart, so am I going to be surprised or am I going to question it?”

Santi Acosta has reaffirmed: “You will understand why he has done so many things and why he has not spoken out before to incriminate more people than necessary. But he is absolutely sincere.”.

And Rábago finished with another question that remains unanswered: “We are facing an interview in which they are telling us that we are going to discover what we do not know. How much Julián Muñoz has cost Pantoja. Well, that is quantified in the sentence,” he concluded.
