MADRID, 25 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish Ilia Topuria prevailed last morning over the American Josh Emmett by unanimous decision (50-44, 50-42, 49-45) in their UFC featherweight bout, the largest mixed martial arts championship in the world, and he remains undefeated in his run to claim the title.
The Hispanic-Georgian dominated in the five-round evening held at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville (United States), which allows him to rise to number five in the UFC featherweight ranking and puts him squarely in the fight for the belt of the Australian Alexander Volkanovski.
Both contenders measured the distance in the first round, in which Emmett threw more punches and in which Topuria did not back down and managed to connect. ‘El Matador’ gained ground in the second, pressing his rival with speed, whom he sent to the canvas with a right hand.
The Spaniard continued to insist in the third ’round’ with a great defense and avoiding Emmett’s attacks, whom he subdued with kicks in the fourth and whom he managed to send back to the ground with a fist; he connected with power and closed the round by mounting his opponent. Already in the final assault, Topuria took the back of his opponent and controlled him until the bell rang.
