Iker Casillas donates the shirt with which he lifted the World Cup to the ‘Legends’ museum

MADRID, 18 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Iker Casillas has donated this Thursday to the ‘Legends, The Home of Football’ museum the shirt with which he played in the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa, his champion’s medal and the ‘Golden Glove’ that accredited him as the best goalkeeper in the competition, an “indelible memory for all Spaniards”.

“Many memories of what you experienced come back to you. When you’re active, you don’t stop to think about what you play and what you achieve, but something as important as the shirt from that feat is something nice for people to see, since It is an indelible memory for all Spaniards,” Casillas declared at the ceremony of handing over the relics.

The former captain of Real Madrid confessed that he did not give importance to keeping memories until he “did” win, but that from the 2007 league he began to accumulate them, until he reached the more than 150 relics he currently has. “You are proud to see the memories of what you have achieved, like this shirt, which brings back many, because it meant a lot to all of us who lived through that,” he commented.

In the event for the delivery of these objects, the president of ‘Legends’, Marcelo Ordás, declared that with this project they are dedicated to “safeguarding the heritage of football” and that having a legend like Iker Casillas is “proud” because he represents the “most unanimous” moment of happiness in the history of Spain. “Madrid stays with ‘Legends’ because it is the world capital of soccer, because there is the biggest club in the world and the best league. And ‘Legends’ comes to make up the world capital of soccer,” he said about the location of the museum. .

Finally, José Antonio Montero, director of Institutional Relations for LaLiga, a body that actively collaborates with the museum, highlighted the “pride” of being partners in a project like ‘Legends’, which helps to “safeguard football heritage”, making it possible for sport “transcends beyond ninety minutes”.

‘Legends, The Home of Football’ is a project that integrates more than 5,000 pieces of football history. A collection that includes items from all international competitions for more than 100 years, including UEFA, FIFA, Conmebol or the Olympic Games, as well as national competitions such as LaLiga.
