“If we want to build something big, Kane must stay”

The technician of the Tottenham Hotspur, Antonio Conte, understand the frustration of Harry Kane due to the lack of club titles, but he says that the forward is key to building a project for success in the team.

Kane was linked to a signing by Premier League champions Manchester City last summer, but Conte said he was “totally satisfied” with the 28-year-old’s commitment. with the team.

The Italian admits it was a “great choice” for owner Daniel Levy to keep the English international at the club, who last won a trophy in 2008 with the League Cup. “I knew the situation of the summer and when Harry decided to stay at Tottenham I found a player fully involved in the project. If we want to think about building something to win, Harry must be a starting point,” he said.

“I understand Harry’s situation. When you finish your career, you can see your appearances and the teams you made them for but, at the same time, it is correct to see what you have won. This is important, especially for the best players.

“I think when Tottenham brought me here they wanted to send a signal abroad, and maybe also to our players. We have to try to build something that we are all involved in and try to create a situation where we can compete to try to win.” .

Conte, who led Chelsea to the league title in 2016-17, will return to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday against Tottenham for the League Cup semi-final match.
