If Benítez falls … Rooney!

28 goals in 117 games played in two stages. The first, as a young promise ‘toffee’, the second already confirmed as a legend of English football after a very long time at Manchester United. The aforementioned is none other than Wayne Mark Rooney, current Derby County manager.

The Rams are in real trouble at the bottom of the Championship with just four points on their locker after 22 games trying to lift the 21-point penalty after entering bankruptcy last September.

The Liverpool man, who retired with the white Derby shirt, tries to relaunch his team, but Everton is considering a second return home. As reported by The Sun, the complicated situation at Goodison Park puts Benítez under pressure and the top scorer of the English team is a viable option to replace the Spanish in case of departure.

This newspaper assures that the club would have unofficially probed its former player, who has already received attempts from other clubs such as Newcastle. Rooney resisted the call of the magpies, but in England they say that a firm offer from Everton would be very difficult for Rooney to reject.

For now Rafa Benítez continues to lead an Everton that has only won against Arsenal in their last ten games. The cheapness of salvation in this edition of the Premier League (just 10 points from Norwich, 10 from Newcastle and 11 from Burnley) keeps them a good distance from relegation (seven points), but now far from entering Europe.
