Iberdrola, new official sponsor of women’s football in Portugal

MADRID, 6 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Iberdrola will be the new official sponsor of all women’s football in Portugal, following the agreement reached by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) with the Spanish electricity company until 2027.

The announcement was made public during half-time of Friday’s match between the Portuguese team and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will count towards qualification for the 2025 Women’s Euro Cup.

The alliance between the electricity company and the Portuguese organization extends until 2027 and will make Iberdrola the official sponsor of the women’s team and the club competitions organized by the FPF: BPI League, Portuguese Cup, Super Cup and League Cup.

“We want to contribute to the visibility, protagonism and creation of new female references in society, favoring the creation of conditions that promote inclusion and equal opportunities,” said David Rivera, Country Manager of Iberdrola Portugal.

For his part, the president of the FPF, Fernando Gomes, expressed that “the growth of women’s football” is an “every day job.” “Something we do better accompanied by partners like Iberdrola, a world-renowned brand. We are sure that this meeting of interests will offer even more energy to our national team and our competitions,” he indicated.

“With more and more players, more clubs, more competitions, it is important to highlight that those who invest in women’s football are also increasingly numerous and larger. We are sure that this is the way to follow and that we will dignify the commitment of Iberdrola,” he added.

Iberdrola’s commitment to gender equality through the promotion of women’s sports transcends borders with the sponsorship of several women’s competitions and federations in Scotland, Brazil and Spain, a country in which the company is the main promoter of women’s football. “Iberdrola contributes to promoting the success of women’s sports, promoting equal opportunities and encouraging healthy habits in society,” highlights the electric company.
