“I saw myself qualified to pull this off”

The ex-coach of Real Mallorca, Luis García Plaza, said goodbye to the vermilion fans this Wednesday through a press conference held at the Son Moix Stadium. “Yesterday, Tuesday, was a very hard day for me, because I not only lost a job, I lost much more, but this is football and you know.” “I always said and I still say now that I saw myself capable of taking this forward, although I respect the decision that the club has adopted with respect to me,” he said, from the outset.

With a broken voice and tears in his eyes, the Madrid coach has thanked the treatment received from his coaching staff, collaborators and club, since the day he arrived at SAD vermilion almost two years ago.

Trying to contain his tears, García Plaza thanked the players for their work. “We didn’t get along as badly as some people said, huh?” He ironized. “Thank you for believing in me; for your effort that served to achieve promotion to the First Division, we dream of a Copa del Rey semifinal and you are one point away from achieving permanence; thank you, thank you all very much,” he mused. “I have been very happy training you,” he specified.

García Plaza has wanted Real Mallorca to achieve the objective of permanence. “I know that you are going to achieve it, for sure; I hope it with all my heart”, he has affirmed, unable to contain his tears. “There is an honest locker room, which gives everything and is going to get it”.

“To the fans, I also thank you for your great treatment towards me and my family, from the very day I arrived in Palma; on my departure, I dare to ask you from the bottom of my heart to continue supporting the team, because Mallorca will surely stay in the First Division”, he pointed out, overcome by emotion.

“If you ever need me, whistle”

García Plaza, flanked by the sports director of Real Mallorca, Pablo Ortells, and the club’s business CEO, Alfonso Díaz, has concluded his farewell, referring to that meeting between two friends who, in their farewell, one said to the other: “If you ever need me, whistle.” “If Mallorca whistles for me one day, I’ll always be there, I’ll come swimming if necessary”. And journalists and players present in the room, responded with applause.
