“I haven’t been able to motivate the players”

Xavi Hernandez made a very clear diagnosis a few minutes after falling to the Lightning in it Camp Nou. “In the first part we were not good but in the second we improved and the feeling is that we deserved much more”. The coach pointed out that “in the first half it wasn’t us, we didn’t have the personality that we had to have in the game”. About the second half he analyzed that “the team came out with more desire and more impetus. We changed the system but they didn’t want to enter”. The Egarense compared the duel to the Cadiz assuring that “it was a very similar match. People are risking their lives and we have to match the desire and desire of the rivals”.

The coach did not hesitate to state that “we are in a difficult situation. We are still in the Champions League but we have complicated ourselves because if we had beaten Cádiz and Rayo it would have almost given us the qualification for the Champions”.

In his analysis, Xavi He said that “there are games that are complicated, also because we gave away the first goal. We didn’t enter with the momentum that we should have. We have to be more effective and enter the game better”.

Xavi commented that “I don’t think it’s a lack of personality on the part of the team” and said that “there are emergencies at the club, both football-wise and financially. It’s a difficult situation and we have to face it.”

Finally, he pointed out that “now it’s time to rest, disconnect and in the middle of the week we’ll get back on and prepare for the Mallorca game.” As for the refereeing action, regarding the penalty against Gavi, he said that “I haven’t seen it, is it a penalty? I don’t know. The referee would have to come out and speak. I can’t speak for him. I made a mistake as a coach and here and I say it. I think I’ve hit the key but I haven’t been able to motivate the players to change the game. I can talk about my mistakes but not about the others, it would be disrespectful”. He added that “I don’t gain anything by talking about the referees. I believe in their honesty. I don’t want to think that they expressly whistle us wrong. They should go out and talk. We coaches go out and explain ourselves. I try to be honest. I don’t have to speak for the referee. They would have to go out. Maybe we would humanize them more.”

“During the talk I thought that we would come out very psyched but it cost us in the first half. In the second we came out different but it didn’t hit us. We were very clear and we couldn’t. We have to continue and stay in second place at least” .
