“I feel bad for Granada; I would have felt the same for Cádiz or Mallorca”

The Espanyol coach experienced a complicated end of the match. It was the first time that he faced such a situation, and he was finally the judge of the relegation. He brushed the matter off, making it clear that he had no preference for Granada, Cadiz and Majorca; and he praised the role of his players, who played one of the best games of the season away from home and that did not go beyond the draw (0-0).

Objective of the meeting. “We had talked about finishing the match, hugging each other and looking each other in the face. We did it. But we have the difficult feeling that some teammates have gone down, but also with the gratitude of having a good match. Now I understand that they will go on vacation, and they will self-criticism, they will relax”.

Valuation. “We have come to compete, to win the game, to leave with a good feeling, we wanted that. Perhaps we lacked clarity or efficiency in the final meters because we offered a competitive version”.

Liberation of Spanish. “Aspects that we worked on during the week we took to practice. It was good in the starting area with the ball, they have suffered without the ball. We were more liberated than the rival team. We played from responsibility. We played with Granada’s times and We hurt. When they were threatened, everything was more open. The plan went well, but if we had won it would have gone well.”

Descent of Granada. “I have never faced a situation like this. I feel bad for Granada, but it would have turned out badly if Cádiz or Alavés were relegated”.

The elimination of the subsidiary. “It was a difficult situation. I knew the energy of the boys for the playoff but it did not go well, everything went against and there is also inexperience, although it is not an excuse, because we competed very well in difficult contexts, but they did not go well in games They had a good run, we didn’t compete for what was at stake. I was out and felt powerless, but happy because the boys have evolved, improved, but the goal hasn’t been achieved. We’ll try to get promoted”.
