Hummels and Nowitzki team up for a solidarity educational initiative

COLOGNE (GERMANY), Aug. 17 (dpa/EP) –

The Germans Mats Hummels, soccer world champion in 2014, and Dirk Nowitzki, former NBA player, announced through a spot their participation in an educational initiative to help children from disadvantaged countries.

Both explained that since they became parents, they have a completely different view of child poverty. The two are involved in the ‘Let’s Learn’ campaign for underprivileged children in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Liberia, Madagascar and Nepal.

“Being a parent makes you more aware of how the kids are doing,” Nowitzki said. “When I follow the news, it touches me more intensely. I worry about what will happen to children around the world in the future,” added the retired former Dallas Mavericks player.

“Since I have a son, I deal much more with this topic and, of course, I also hear much more from other children. Therefore, the perspective and my personal vision of it have changed enormously, and above all, it has become increase the importance of the whole thing,” Borussia Dortmund defender Hummels said.
