MADRID, 4 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Balearic swimmer Hugo González and the Malaga-born María de Valdés lead the first official list of those selected by the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN) for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, confirmed this Monday by the federative body and which includes three summoned in pool and two in open water.
González, who just a few weeks ago won gold – in the 200 meter backstroke – and a silver – in the 100 meter backstroke – at the Doha World Championships, meets the criteria that will allow him to swim in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 styles.
In the pool events he will be accompanied by Mario Mollá from Barcelona, who achieved the minimum in the 100 butterfly at the World Championships; and Carlos Garach from Granada, who achieved the same in the 800 meter freestyle event at the Qatari event.
In addition, the relays that have already obtained an Olympic place will also be in Paris: the men’s 4×100 free, 4×200 free and 4×100 medley and the women’s 4×200 free, although without specifying the composition of any of them.
In open water, María de Valdés from Malaga is confirmed for the 10 kilometer event, in which she was runner-up in the world in Doha; same distance for which Ángela Martínez is classified.
The complete team selected for the Olympic Games will be published once the last qualifying championship has been played, the Spanish Absolute Open Championship that will be held in Palma from June 18 to 22.
