Hispanics open a new stage with a win over Romania

MADRID, 4 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men’s handball team beat Romania (33-29) this Thursday in the first of two friendlies between the two teams, returning to action for the Hispanics after their bronze three months ago at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

A renewed Spain, newcomers and new faces after the Olympic call, beat the team led by Spanish coach Xavi Pascual with good feelings. At the Avilés ‘El Quirinal’ Sports Complex, the Olympic bronze medalist went from low to high to fuel her game.

Those of Jordi Ribera ran into the Romanian goal Vasile Dan in the first attacks. The debutant Daniel Fernández released the score that was Romanian as well as the rhythm of the match at the start. Spain increased intensity and went up to rest (16-15).

It was difficult for Romania then to maintain the offensive rhythm and the host escaped with the entry of another young man like Gonzalo Pérez Arce (22:19). Pascual’s men did not throw in the towel and the scoreboard remained tight until the last seconds. Spain will play again on Saturday, the same place and rival, and their first big goal will be the European Championship in two months.

“It has been a good scenario, that we find a team that generates problems for us is good, especially for new people. There have been details that I liked, the players who have come loose. We had a difficult game. automatisms in attack, it is normal, I am happy, “said Jordi Ribera in statements to the Spanish Federation.
