Henry refuses to be the new French women’s soccer coach

MADRID, 16 Mar. (STATS Perform/dpa/EP) –

Former player Thierry Henry has refused to coach the French women’s soccer team, after the dismissal of Corinne Diacre, as confirmed by the member of the French Football Federation (FFF) Committee this Thursday.

“Thierry (Henry) has thought about it. I raised it personally, but the response was not positive,” Aulas confessed in statements to the French medium Le Figaro

From the FFF, they revealed that the ex-soccer player felt, “obviously, very flattered” by the proposal to be the new absolute selector of the women’s team. “We did it because they told us that he might be interested. But it won’t be Thierry Henry. I think he is dedicating himself to other projects,” Aulas predicted.

Henry was an assistant to Roberto Martínez in the Belgian team that went to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Since then, as the former soccer player himself acknowledged, he continues to look for work, even offering to lead the United States national team.

However, after Diacre’s departure from the women’s team after recognizing the FFF that his relationship with the players had “reached a point of no return that harms the interests of the national team”, the Federation is working to sign the successor to Croix’s , taking into account that the 2023 World Cup begins on July 20, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand. France will debut on July 23 against Jamaica, before facing Brazil and Panama.
