Henderson signs for Ajax after six months in the Saudi League

MADRID, 18 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

England international Jordan Henderson signed for Ajax this Thursday to end his time in Saudi Arabia, with Al-Ettifaq for the last six months.

“Ajax have reached an agreement with Jordan Henderson for his arrival in Amsterdam. The midfielder has played for Al-Ettifaq for the last six months. The 81-time England international recently reached an agreement with the Saudi Arabian club regarding the termination of his current contract,” says the Dutch team in the official statement.

Henderson's signing for the Saudi League was one of the most talked about last summer, a Liverpool captain who seemed to follow the path of money, with a million-dollar contract in Saudi Arabia. The criticism was fierce in England, especially for the role that the footballer had carried out in defense of the LGTBIQ+ collective, for going to a country that considers same-sex relationships a crime.

After playing just 17 games, in a club with little impact in the table or a significant fan base in the stands, Henderson ends his time at Al-Ettifaq where he had his former teammate and also 'red' legend Steven Gerrard as coach.

Rumors in recent weeks pointed to the search for an agreement to end his relationship with the Saudi club and be able to return to Europe. Henderson, who played 492 games for Liverpool and won seven titles, signed with Ajax until June 30, 2026 and will wear the '6' on their shirt.
