The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Commission of the European body has imposed a three-match suspension on Kjetil Knutsen, coach of Bodö/Glimt, and Nuno Santos, Roma goalkeeper coach within José Mourinho’s staff, after a scuffle between the two in the changing room tunnel at the end of the match at the Aspmyra Stadion in the town of Bodö.
After the final whistle, Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini revealed that Nuno Santos had been assaulted, while Knutsen accused Roma’s goalkeeping coach of grabbing him by the throat. The Bodö/Glimt reported the incident to the police.
UEFA provisionally suspended the two last week and accused them of “serious assault” pending the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings it opened for violating the general principles of conduct.
Roma came from behind in the tie after winning a 4-0 second leg that Knutsen and Nuno Santos had already missed. Now they must serve another two sanction matches.
Therefore, Mourinho’s assistant will not be against Leicester today in the first leg of the Conference League semi-final and will finish the suspension when the ‘foxes’ return to the Olympic Stadium in Rome on May 5. If the ‘giallorossi’ qualify, Nuno Santos could sit on the bench in the final in Tirana on May 25.
