The fire that ravages the Californian coast continues unstoppable. There are already six active outbreaks that have left at least five fatalities and more than 150,000 evacuees, in addition to half a million hectares burned. Many well-known faces, such as Paris Hilton, Anthony Hopkins and Jamie Lee Curtis, have lost their homes while others, such as Prince Harry and Meghan Marklethey pray that the emergency services control the fire before it devours theirs. The house of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, located in the luxurious neighborhood of Montecito, is at “high risk” of evacuation due to the proximity of the flames and the very strong winds that make the work of firefighters difficult.
Harry and Meghan bought this house in 2020. Valued at $14 million, it is located in Santa Barbara County. Here they recorded part of their controversial documentary, broadcast on Netflix, and have raised their children, Archie and Lilibeth, away from the media spotlight thanks to the enormous security measures in the area. The Mediterranean-style mansion has 16 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms, as well as a cinema, library, arcade, gym and tennis court. It also has a wine cellar, a sauna and a garage for eight cars, all among gardens and lakes.
Now, their little oasis is in danger. Montecito is one of the areas adjacent to those affected by the large fire that is ravaging Los Angeles, made up of six active outbreaks, and the authorities have prepared an urgent evacuation plan for the next few hours that will be activated if the fire advances. They would follow in the footsteps of other neighbors, such as Gwyneth Paltrow or her friend Oprah Winfrey, who have had to leave their homes for safety in the last few hours.
From their Foundation’s page, Harry and Meghan have shared a message for all those affected like them: “In recent days, the wildfires in Southern California have devastated neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, health care centers and much more, affecting tens of thousands of people from all walks of life,” they begin. “A state of emergency has been declared. If you want to help, here are some resources and ideas,” they explained, offering links to official pages to make donations or volunteer. “If a friend, loved one, or pet needs to evacuate and you can offer them safe shelter in your home, do so. And be sure to check with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating,” they conclude.
Others, however, are already mourning their loss. Paris Hilton has been one of the first celebrities to confirm through social networks that her home has been reduced to ashes: “Sitting with my family, watching the news and watching our house in Malibu burn to the ground live on television is something no one should ever have to experience,” he wrote. “I hold on to the gratitude that my family is safe. My heart and prayers go out to every family affected by these fires. To all the people who have lost their homes, their memories, and their beloved pets. My deepest condolences to who are still in danger or grieving greater losses.
