Haaland unblocks Manchester City to get closer to the Premier League leader

MADRID, 20 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Manchester City beat Brentford FC 1-0 this Tuesday, with a goal on the counterattack by Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, and thus approached the leadership of the Premier League, in the hands of Liverpool FC, after a postponed match that corresponded to the day 18.

At the Etihad Stadium, the home team dominated from the start and created chances everywhere, but the Brentford goalkeeper and his centre-backs excelled in almost every attempt by their rival. A header from Bernardo Silva, from a pass from Kyle Walker in the 33rd minute and which went wide, was the clearest goal for Manchester City in the first half.

Although the dynamic remained the same after the break, Haaland showed no mercy to the visiting team in the 71st minute. Following a counterattack, well mounted by the 'citizens' from their own area, the Norwegian striker sprinted and took advantage of a slip by Kristoffer Ajer to stand alone in front of the goalkeeper, whom he beat with a low left foot.

This victory, with difficulties due to the lack of previous aim, placed Pep Guardiola's pupils in second position in the Premier League; They now have 56 points, just one behind Liverpool and with the same margin compared to third place Arsenal (55 pts.). For its part, Brentford is close to relegation with 25 points.
