Gustavo Siviero: “The goal was to be a worthy opponent who was capable of fighting the game”

MADRID, 5 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The CF Intercity coach, Gustavo Siviero, was “very happy” despite being eliminated this Wednesday in extra time against FC Barcelona in the Copa del Rey for having shown himself to be “a worthy rival who was capable of fighting the game”.

“It was a very nice match, especially for the spectators. The people deserved a match with this result and these alternatives, and I feel very proud and I am very happy because the objective was to offer ourselves as a worthy rival who was capable of fighting the We were in the result at all times, obviously suffering, but we have to leave more than proud with the game we played”, reflected Siviero after the game.

The Argentine coach recognized the wear and tear suffered. “These qualifiers and these rivals take you to the limit. It was a different pace from what we are used to and we ended up quite decimated, perhaps in better conditions we would have had a better option, but it was logical that we ended up like this. The image was very good”, he stressed.

In this sense, he ruled out that, after what was seen, it would have been better to play in his usual field. “This is necessary for everyone, we are not afraid to forget the fans who want to see this type of game,” he said, stressing that it was the “merit” of the footballers to get the support of a Rico Pérez crowd that seemed more devoted to FC Barcelona. “People recognize the effort and dedication, knowing that we have a different reality from that of the rival,” he clarified.

Siviero confessed that “more than seeing that it was possible” to qualify, he felt “satisfaction and pride because the team believed and tried”, and about the little impact of the changes, he asked not to be “too demanding with footballers who have not been participating too”. “You also have to take into account the rival, the game situation and the rhythm. The players were good and showed their faces,” he said.

“Hopefully this will serve as a turning point for us and we will be able to believe that we have a lot of potential to compete in a better way in the league. Today we were at an excellent level and it is difficult to repeat, but we have to know that we can push ourselves to play like We did it today,” he said.
