Guardiola: “Liverpool is the toughest rival I’ve ever faced as a manager”

After winning the Manchester derby, Pep Guardiola he celebrated the humility and persistence of his team, and said that if they don’t end up winning the Premier League it’s because they’re up against the toughest rival of their career, Liverpool.

He dominated the Manchester derby. City controlled the game and reacted when United tried to upset them. He ended up reaping a win to continue his path to the league title. It would be the fourth in five years for Guardiola at the head of the sky-blue team.

“My biggest success as a manager is that we continue to run like we do after winning three Premier Leagues in the last four years. And we’re still up there, trying to win again”, explained the Catalan after the game. “The normal thing is that after success you have bad thoughts and get confused. That you believe something that you are not. But we’re still humble enough to continue working in each training session, in each match, and continue to be up there. Then you can win or you can lose.”

If in the end we can’t do it, it’s because we’re up against the toughest opponent I’ve come across in my 12 or 13 years as a coach. Liverpool in recent years is formidable. Staying there, fighting with them, winning domestic titles and trophies is the greatest success of my career”.
