Guardiola: “I know the mentality they have in Munich, we still have to play a tough game”

MADRID, 12 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola, said this Wednesday that he knows “the mentality” they have at Bayern Munich, so his pupils “still” have to “play a tough game” for the return of the quarterfinals final in the Champions League, without trusting the 3-0 advantage they have after the first leg.

“I lived in Munich for two years. I know the mentality and the quality they have, we still have to play a tough game,” Guardiola said. “When you are there you realize how good Bayern Munich is as a team,” he added in statements to the BT Sport television channel.

The ‘citizen’ coach described the first leg against Bayern as “a very close match for 60 minutes”, even after Rodri Hrenández’s great goal opened the scoring. “In many moments they were better than us, but after minute 65 we got the second goal and that helped us a lot,” he stressed.

“We were aggressive; the second goal was due to that,” he said about the 2-0 score by Bernardo Silva. “Looking at his bench, there was always danger. The result is very good, but the second leg remains,” Guardiola insisted.

On the other hand, Rodri was happy with the large score: “It’s a great result for us, but also because of how the team has played. For me, the key today has been the defensive aspect. It has been very good and we have known punish them. It was very special for me to score my first goal in the Champions League.”

The Spanish midfielder admitted that “sometimes” they understand that “not” they can always “have 80% possession”. “They play too. We’ve scored three and we could have scored four, but it’s a great result. We don’t think it’s done,” he cautiously finished for the second leg.
