Groves: “Win is the best way to turn Simon Yates’s Covid downside around”

MADRID, 31 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Australian cyclist Kaden Groves (Team BikeExchange) showed his joy at consummating his first victory in La Vuelta a España this Wednesday, in the eleventh stage, “the best way to turn around” the loss of his teammate Simon Yates due to coronavirus.

“We started the day with the news that Simon (Yates) had tested positive for Covid, and we were all very disappointed. It’s the best way to turn around such bad news. I have to celebrate, but I also wish he was here, because he’s part of this team,” Groves said after crossing the finish line in first place.

The 23-year-old Australian sprinter, who is contesting his first Grand Tour, was the fastest in the third mass arrival of La Vuelta. A totally flat stage in which the sprinters’ teams took advantage of their opportunity and gave no option to escape

“I have to thank all my teammates, we have worked all day and this victory has come a long way. With a crosswind in the last 4 kilometers, the guys have done a perfect job to leave me fresh in the head,” he added.

A victory with two more stages to go for the sprinters. “Being my first victory in a Grand Tour, this one takes the cake. It has been a very good year and I am very happy to achieve victory here,” he said.
