Granada players follow a nutritional plan to maintain muscle mass

The Granada squad follows a nutritional plan designed by its medical services during this period of confinement in Spain due to the coronavirus pandemic, in order to prevent the loss of muscle mass of its players and stimulate their immune system while LaLiga Santander resumes.

Dr. Manuel Arroyo, one of the members of the Granada club's medical services, explained that this specific plan goes hand in hand with the physical exercises carried out by each footballer at home and consists of “nutritional recommendations according to the type of training that is done every day. “

“The main objective is that there is no loss of muscle mass in the players, which is what we know scientifically that occurs in this type of situation,” said the doctor of the Atletico team in statements provided by the club.

He warned that “regular movements, walks or training in the field involve a great deal of physical activity, but beating all the time at home the body suffers despite working also at home.”

“We have established nutrition guidelines depending on when each player trains to receive a protein intake. The idea is to reduce the intake of carbohydrates, which tend to accumulate, produce fats and, therefore, alter body composition of the players, “he added.

The Galician rojiblanco insisted that the final goal is that, “as soon as normality can be returned to and return to training, the muscle mass will be as deteriorated as possible” also bearing in mind that “an intense process of competition awaits them” “when the alarm state ends.

Arroyo believes that this nutritional plan will also serve each footballer to “try to stimulate their immune system, so that their defense system is as strong as possible.”

In this sense, he added, it promotes “the intake of protein after exercise” and the consumption of “everything that stimulates the immune system” such as “foods rich in vitamin C, vitamin E or some algae” with which this is achieved. objective.

The Granada doctor recalled that there are “many cases of people who have been detained for many years and have managed to make their confinements periods of reflection and improvement”, so he sees it possible to get out of it “even in better conditions than a person had before it. “
