Granada complies with direct promotion and Málaga trusts in a miracle

MADRID, 13 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Granada beat Lugo (2-0) this Saturday on matchday 40 of LaLiga SmartBank to fulfill a very tight direct promotion and take the lead with the weekend still to end, while Málaga clung to salvation with a 2-0 to Mirandés.

The Nasrid team did its part to sleep the Second leader in a solid performance in Los Cármenes against an already relegated rival. Puertas and Bryan Zaragoza settled the match with two goals in the first half, to put the pressure on the other four contenders for the first two places in the table.

Meanwhile, Cartagena gave Albacete a free hand to close the door of promotion positions when they fell (2-0) on their visit to Real Zaragoza. An own goal from Poveda and another from Bermejo, from a penalty already in discount, leave Efesé four points behind sixth place, with one more game and therefore very few options.

For their part, Málaga still aspires to the miracle of salvation, for which they need the setbacks of Huesca and/or Racing in the three remaining games, with a 2-0 defeat of Mirandés. Escassi and Lago Junior avoided the mathematical descent of the Andalusians.

In addition, in the Asturian derby at El Molinón, Oviedo maintained their streak without losing against Sporting since 2019, with both teams with the season seen to be judged. Higher up and with better dynamics, the ‘carbayón’ team took the lead just before the break through Sergi Enrich and a perfect header.

Sporting had started better but went from more to less, having to wait for the restart to recover their options in the match. The VAR came into action to warn of a penalty that Djurdjevic converted to make it 1-1. The rojiblanco team pressed with their people and Oviedo defended themselves to avoid the neighbor’s happiness.
