Gran Canaria pushes for the ‘playoff’ after storming the Coliseum

MADRID, 31 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Gran Canaria achieved its second consecutive victory in the Endesa League this Thursday at the expense of Hereda San Pablo Burgos (77-86) in a match corresponding to matchday 21 -postponed at the time- and is approaching the ‘playoff’ positions in the absence of nine games for the conclusion of the Regular League.

The Canaries are ninth, but share the same balance (13-12) with UCAM Murcia -eighth- after an important victory that keeps them in the fight. The best in the island team was John Shurna, who led the scoring side with 16 points and was key in the decisive moment to not let San Pablo revive, in addition to Andrew Albicy, lethal with nine assists.

In fact, the locals tried to stage a comeback in the last quarter but it was not possible despite the efforts of Vítor Benite, the match’s top scorer with 21 units. In this way, Gran Canaria will continue to dream of the battle for the title, while Paco Olmos’ men are in the tight lower part of the standings.
