Gold for the women’s beach soccer team on another good day for Spain at the European Games

Carolina Marín gets into the badminton final and Laura Heredia hangs the silver in modern pentathlon

MADRID, 1 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The women’s beach soccer team closed with a gold medal this Saturday, another good day for the Spanish delegation at the European Games, which are being held in Krakow-Malopolska (Poland), while Carolina Marín from Huelva got into the individual badminton final and the Barcelonan Laura Heredia hung the silver in modern pentathlon.

On the twelfth day of activity on Polish lands, tenth with full official status, beach soccer gave Spain the greatest joy. At the Tarnow Beach Arena facilities, the men’s team got bronze after beating Portugal 0-2 on penalties, after 5-5 with which extra time had ended.

Next, it was the turn of the women’s team, which also drew in the final against Ukraine (2-2); in the penalty shootout, the 3-5 favorable to the Spanish was worth a gold medal. But the harvest of the day went further, thanks above all to the second place of the pentathlete Laura Heredia in the individual competition.

With her 1,429 points overall, Heredia was behind the Italian Alice Sotero (1,443) and ahead of the British Olivia Green (1,428). Despite not obtaining the title, on June 27 the Catalan already had history for the national modern pentathlon, obtaining the ticket for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

On the other hand, in the men’s kickboxing tournament, Rubén Iglesias won bronze in the -63 kg category after reaching the semifinals; in said fight, he fell against the German Anis Triqui. Meanwhile, Mohammed Amdi reached the final in the -86 kg category after beating the Ukrainian Artem Melnyk in the ‘semis’.

Among the highlights of the day, Carolina Marín continued her good form in these European Games and got into the final of the badminton women’s singles draw. She did so thanks to her 21-13 and 21-11 victory over the British Kirsty Gilmour, achieved resoundingly in her offensive deployment.
