Girona overwhelms Calvo Sotelo in Puertollano

Girona beat Calvo Sotelo de Puertollano 1-5 in the first round of the Copa del Rey thanks to goals from Samu Saiz, Monju, Artero, Dawda and Aleix García.

Despite presenting a starting eleven full of substitutes and with four players from the first team, the first half of Calvo Sotelo-Girona was entertaining and at the level of expectations. The locals jumped onto the grass without complexes, ready to intimidate the favorite. In the sixth minute of the game, Abraham put the rookie Ortolá to the test, who produced a providential hand.

Despite the powerful start of the Puertollano team, Girona went ahead on the scoreboard thanks to a maximum penalty on Dawda Camara that Samu Saiz transformed from eleven meters.

The locals were not willing to back down and five minutes later they leveled the match thanks to a good collective action that Ribalta culminated in the heart of the area.

Without facilities to be able to generate goal options through the associative game, the second of Girona also had to reach a set piece. Samu Saiz centered a corner kick from the right and Monju, the reserve team’s center-back, anticipated everyone and, from the penalty spot, headed into the back of the net.

With the tranquility of being able to give even a few minutes to starters like Aleix García, Álex Baena and Santi Bueno, Girona liked it on the green and Aleix himself, who had entered a few moments before, scored the fifth after an action that ended with several reject within the area.
