MADRID, 4 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Girona beat Athletic Club (2-1) this Friday at the start of matchday 13 of LaLiga Santander held at the Montilivi Stadium, a deserved victory although suffered due to the final reaction of a discreet Basque team that failed in the area high.
Míchel’s team won again two months later, seven days in a row without knowing the victory, and they did so by minimizing a rival that fights for Europe. Girona was better throughout the game and the goals from David López and Iván Martín, in the second half, did justice.
Girona forgave half a dozen good chances in the first half, with a great Unai Simón to stop the actions of Taty Castellanos, Yangel Herrera and Valery. Raúl García had the visiting warning before the break, but the Basque team was a strain on the wings and Míchel went for more with the changes.
The second half changed the panorama in Montilivi, with an Athletic team that not only did not create danger but was also not very forceful at the back. A set piece made it 1-0 in a perfect shot by David López and, shortly after, Iván Martín, in his first minutes of the season after a long injury, made it 2-0.
Valverde’s men were proud and, after a first warning with Nico Williams and Guruzeta, the same protagonists repeated for the 2-1 in the second. Girona got too far back and Nico himself was able to upset Montilivi, but Míchel’s men celebrated a soothing victory to move away from the relegation zone.
