Míchel's men beat Orihuela in the last 30 minutes and the Andalusians fall in the flooded Arandina field
Athletic and Celta, with a controversial penalty, advance to the round of 32
MADRID, 7 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Girona beat Orihuela (2-5) this Thursday in the thirty-second final of the Copa del Rey, with a lethal last 30 minutes from the LaLiga EA Sports co-leader, while Cádiz became the second First Division team to fall after a 2-1 against Arandina.
The 'KO' tournament remains capricious as it did in its early rounds, making the big teams suffer. After the elimination of Almería on Wednesday, Cádiz also lost at the El Montecillo Stadium (Aranda de Duero), with a flooded field where the match surely should not have been played.
Sergio González's men fell to a motivated and more successful Second Federation among giant puddles, even more so with Haji Ceesay's goal after five minutes. San Emeterio still tied in the first half, but an ineffective Cádiz conceded again through Jorge Pesca to say goodbye to the Cup in a season that is not looking good in the domestic competition.
On the other hand, Celta did get a break from their poor league performance with their presence in next Tuesday's draw. Rafa Benítez's team called time in their 1-2 draw against Sestao River, on another very demanding field and in poor conditions due to the rain. A double from Anastasios Douvikas saved those from Vigo.
The Basque team was brave and, after the bad action by Unai Núñez in the 1-1 own goal, the comeback was around. A very dubious penalty gave Benítez's team the victory, although the game died in the area of a Celta team that was narrowly superior to a Primera RFEF team on a pitch that was difficult to manage.
The Cayón players also missed the VAR, due to a penalty in favor of Athletic Club that made it 0-2, two goals from Asier Villalibre in five minutes of the first half. However, Ernesto Valverde's men were not comfortable in the second half and the 'lions' coach put in artillery with the Williams and Sancet, with Nico being the author of the 0-3 score in the 85th minute.
The changes also made a difference for a Girona team that did not get nervous despite the self-confidence of Orihuela. The Second RFEF team suffered in the first half and Míchel's team was able to score a few more goals than Pablo Torre's. Sergio Mendinueta and Booker set off the alarms before the break (1-2).
The Valencian team believed in the miracle and in the resumption they disputed the dominance of the revelation team of Spanish football. However, the entry of Miguel Gutiérrez, Yan Couto and Savinho was unapproachable for Orihuela, in a Girona wing game where four goals came in 20 minutes, two from Stuani, another from Portu and the last from Valery.
