Girona assault San Mamés and Celta confirm their recovery against Valladolid

MADRID, 26 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Athletic Club lost this Sunday in San Mamés against Girona, a duel in which two own goals from the Bilbao team helped the visitors win (2-3), on a twenty-third day of LaLiga Santander in which RC Celta confirmed their recovery with a win against Real Valladolid (3-0).

Míchel’s team, dressed in the colors of the ‘senyera’, took just four minutes to get ahead in ‘La Catedral’, after Aleix García received a ball from Borja García and placed it close to the long post, without Unai Simón I could avoid it.

The Tarragona midfielder himself hung up shortly after, in the 19th minute, a cross into the heart of the area that Óscar de Marcos, in his attempt to clear, put into his own goal to bring the second goal for the Catalans on the scoreboard.

A missile from Yuri Berchiche at minute 35 served Ernesto Valverde’s men to close the gap, but just before the break Mikel Vesga headed in a free-kick from Aleix García to score the second own goal of the afternoon (min.45+1 ).

With the double substitution of Unai Simón and Gorka Guruzeta for Julen Agirrebazala and for Raúl García, the second half started at the rojiblanco coliseum, where only a goal from the Navarrese player in the final stretch (min.89) changed the light.

In this way, Girona achieves its third victory in the last four league games and adds 30 points to settle in tenth place. The ‘lions’, seventh (32), conceded their second league defeat in a row before facing the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals against Osasuna at El Sadar.

In Abanca Balaídos, Celta confirmed their improvement in recent weeks with a solid win against Real Valladolid, with homegrown player Gabri Veiga as the main protagonist, participating in all three goals for the Galician team.

The midfielder from O Porriño assisted Haris Seferovic to score the first goal, a cross that the Swiss connected at the far post with a header into the back of the net (min.17). After half an hour, he scored the first of his private account with a close shot that Sergio Asenjo did not reach (min.32).

Before leaving the field amid a loud ovation and the referee annulled a goal for Amallah -who would be sent off in minute 84 for a tackle from behind- for offside, Veiga sentenced the clash in the 64th minute by hunting a rejection after a shot by Luca de la Torre that he did not miss.

With this, the people from Vigo (27) breathe as they move away from the danger zone, five units below, while the Blanquivioleta team (24) remains, after suffering their second consecutive defeat and their third day without winning, only two points above of descent.
