Giráldez: “Getting the three national titles and reaching the final of the ‘Champions’ has merit”

Mapi León: “The Cup has no less value for coming from playing the Champions League final”

BARCELONA, 29 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The women’s FC Barcelona coach, Jonatan Giráldez, stressed that the evaluation of the season “is not perfect, but it has a lot of merit”, after winning all the national titles, including the Copa de la Reina this Sunday, and reaching the Champions League final.

“The evaluation of the season is not perfect. But it has a lot of merit to get all the national titles and reach the final of the ‘Champions’. Of the 47 games played we have won 45”, Giráldez said at a press conference after scoring ( 6-1) to Sporting de Huelva in the final of the Copa de la Reina

“I’m left with the evolution of the team throughout the season. We’re better than when we started. It’s a great merit how we’ve recovered and speaks highly of the players”, said the Barça coach, who highlighted the Catalan team’s ability to overcome the defeat in the final of the ‘Champions’ and later beat Real Madrid.

After beating Sporting de Huelva, Giráldez commented that “it’s time to enjoy the title” and have room for reflection. “We have to see how we can continue to improve and help the players to show better versions in each game. I have great confidence in their potential and their ability to sacrifice for what they show in training,” he said.

“The most difficult thing is to have the mental capacity to improve every day. It is our duty when we go to train. Maintaining a good level for ten months is one of the most complicated things,” he added. Asked about his renewal, Giráldez admitted that “everything is not closed”, although they are “optimistic” because the will is to continue “as now”.

MAPI LEÓN: “THE CUP HAS NO LESS VALUE FOR COMING FROM PLAYING THE FINAL OF THE ‘CHAMPIONS’

For her part, the Barça player Mapi León highlighted the importance of winning the Copa de la Reina. “Each game and victory must be valued. In the end it is one more title, not because we came from a final of the ‘Champions’ it has less value, it is a title and we have to win it,” he said this Sunday about the match played in Alcorcón.

“It was complicated after winning a final against Real Madrid. You have to be happy with the change in ‘chip’ from one competition to another,” he said. On his level, the defense admitted that it stays “more” with his mistakes than with his successes.

Asked about the final of the ‘Champions’, Mapi stressed that “when you want something and it escapes you, you want it even more”. In this way, they hope to work “more” next season to get all the titles “again”.
