Giannis Cutch Buckets and Damian Lillard Finish the 76ers

In their NBA debut in 2022–23, the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers. Giannis Antetokounmpo put on a terrific performance, and Damian Lillard gave an amazing performance.

Throughout the game, Lillard dominated the Sixers, but in the last moments of the fourth quarter, it was all Dame Time.

NBA great guard Damian Lillard had an incredible start to his Milwaukee Bucks career on Thursday, leading the team to a 118-117 victory at home against Philadelphia with 39 points.

The 33-year-old American, acquired from Portland in a trade last month, scored the most points in his debut game for the Bucks in the inaugural game of the league for both teams.

Milwaukee fans erupted in delight as Lillard made 9 of 20 shots from the field, including 4 of 12 from the line, and sunk all 17 of his free throws. He also added 8 rebounds and 4 assists.

Seven-time All-Star guard Damian Lillard led the Bucks past a resolute Sixers squad that fought until the very end with 14 points in the last four minutes.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, an inside-outside dual threat, combined for a game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Bucks in their first meeting with Lillard.

The Sixers, without star scorer James Harden and without him on the travel squad due to fitness concerns, were led by Tyrese Maxey, who scored 31 points, Kelly Oubre, who scored 27 points off the bench, and Joel Embiid, who is currently the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, who scored 24 points.

Antetokounmpo, the two-time NBA MVP, and Lillard collaborated for early baskets on Monday after the latter agreed to a three-year deal extension with the Bucks worth $186 million. This suggests that the two can work well together.

The 33-year-old American, acquired from Portland in a trade last month, eclipsed Terry Cummings’ 1984 record of 34 points in the season opening for both teams to record the highest-scoring start in Bucks history.

“I walked into these kinds of circumstances knowing what was required of me,” Lillard stated. “They encourage me to serve as the person who exercises control, make decisions, or decide what’s going to occur in those moments.”

Lillard finished with eight rebounds, four assists, and nine points on nineteen of his twenty-two field goals, including four of his twelve three-pointers. He also made all 17 of his free throws.

“That’s why I’m here to do, regardless of whether it fails to work out,” Lillard stated. “They put their trust in me with that, knowing that I can handle it no matter what happens on some nights.

“They encourage you so early, and I truly appreciate it, even though I don’t take it for granted. Everyone is aware of my identity and my work, and they are giving me the freedom to do it.”

With 39 points, he also had the fourth-best NBA debut of any player from any club, behind Wilt Chamberlain, Kyrie Irving, and Kiki Vandeweghe. He took control in the closing minutes, much to the pleasure of the Milwaukee supporters, who shouted.

“We desire that he be Dame. Griffin remarked, “We want Giannis to be Giannis.” “Out there, they balance each other out.

Indeed, they do. It can only get better from here. “There is just one game. We teased future developments. It’s a good beginning, but we must never lose sight of the end result.”
