Germany-Denmark EURO round of 16 match resumes after huge storm over Dortmund

MADRID, 29 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

UEFA has temporarily suspended the match between the German and Danish national football teams in the round of 16 of the men’s European Championship on Saturday due to adverse weather conditions at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund.

At minute 34:46, and with the score at 0-0, English referee Michael Oliver stopped the match and ordered the players of both teams to leave the field due to the presumed threat of an electrical storm. “You can’t play in these conditions, the storm is very dangerous,” it was read on Oliver’s own lips.

Initially, the players went to their benches to take a hydration break. However, shortly afterwards it started to rain heavily in Borussia Dortmund’s usual stadium. Both the players and the two technical staff, together with the refereeing team headed by Oliver, went to the changing rooms.

After a break of almost half an hour, UEFA’s alarm bells were raised for the storm and the English ‘midfielders’ restarted the match with the ball favourable to Germany. Toni Kroos, a Real Madrid midfielder and one of the great standard-bearers of ‘Die Mannschaft’, controlled the ball and created a long play with which his team came close to scoring twice.
