Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands present a joint bid for the 2027 Women's World Cup

FRANKFURT (GERMANY), December 8 (dpa/EP) –

This Friday, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands officially presented their candidacy to FIFA to organize the 2027 Women's World Cup.

The documents were sent on time, the German Football Federation (DFB) reported in a statement. Brazil and a joint bid from the United States and Mexico are also in the running.

The goal of the European bid is to increase revenues by 50% compared to the 2023 World Cup. The World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand in July and August achieved record revenues of 570 million dollars -528 million euros -.

The three countries have called their candidacy 'Breaking New Ground' – 'Breaking new paths' -, using the initials of each country in English. The decision on the venue will be made on May 17 next year at the FIFA Congress in Bangkok.

The United States, which will host the next men's World Cup in 2026 along with Mexico and Canada, already hosted the women's World Cup in 1999 and 2003. The tournament has never been to South America.

Germany, which already organized the Women's World Cup in 2011, enters the race with the cities of Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen and Cologne, all of them close to the borders with their fellow candidates.

Belgium wants to organize World Cup matches in Brussels, Charleroi, Genk and Ghent, while the Netherlands proposes Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Heerenveen, Enschede and Rotterdam. The final selection of the 10 venues will be up to FIFA. The World Cup groups would be drawn in Brussels.
