Gerard Moreno: “We knew we could win”

Gerard Moreno reappeared to guide Villarreal to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The striker, injured for several weeks, came onto the pitch in the second half and was decisive in scoring the penalty that would break the game against Juventus.

“We knew we could do it, that it was going to be even, but we believed we could win. We always compete in the big games. We all add up and we want to be with the best in Europe. We are among the top eight”, he assessed after the game.

“I am very happy for the president and for all the people, the fans and the team,” added Gerard, who explained the moments before scoring the 0-1 penalty.

“I tried to get away a bit before shooting. I tried to be calm. The last day I failed. It was a decisive moment, but I had confidence. I knew I could do it.”

Real Madrid, Atlético and Villarreal, the three surviving Spaniards, have managed to get through the round. “Our league is there. It is one of the most powerful, along with the Premier. Getting three Spaniards into the quarterfinals is a source of pride.”

Finally, Gerard indicated that he has no preferences in Friday’s draw. “I don’t care who touches us, it will be difficult. We are going to compete.”
