Last February We announced for the first time that Genoveva Casanova had signed on for the fifth season of El Desafío, which will arrive after Christmas on Antena 3. The Mexican, represented by Susana Uribarri, It negotiated a good cache in the wake of the scandal on its cover with Frederick of Denmark walking through Madrid. Informalia also confirmed the signing of Victoria Federica.
Sources from the production company Pablo Motos (7 and action) said that the signing of the former Cayetano Martínez de Irujo had been closed before the photos with Queen Margaret’s son and Mary Donaldson’s husband came to light. Behind her signing for the program is, as we already published, Susana Uribarri. José Luis Uribarri’s daughter has in her portfolio representatives Ana Obregón, Norma Duval, Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada and Tamara Falcó, among other top-level celebrities that we frequently see on Antena 3 programs. Genoveva Casanova herself is was hiding behind a poodle in the second season of Mask Singer, broadcast more than three years ago. On the other hand, Genoveva, who in January will be one of the big stars on Antena 3, has sued Lequio, Mediaset and Ana Rosa Quintana for the comments after his photos with Federico from Denmark. The name of Genevieve Casanova, whose relationship with Frederick captured media attention at the beginning of her reign, has almost completely faded from public discourse in Denmark. Although the scandal made headlines in Spain, in the Nordic country it does not seem to have significantly affected the perception of the royal figure. Last week we exclusively previewed the visit of Mary Donaldson and her husband to Madrid to attend an exclusive party: that is to say, osaron traveling to the city of scandal with complete normality and, although they did so on a private trip, they had no problem being seen a few meters from the places where Genoveva and the then Danish heir were seen.
The first year of the reign of Frederick of Denmark, who assumed the throne after the scandal of the compromising photos with Genoveva Casanova in Madrid, has been described as a success among the Danes. The most recent polls show that the monarch and his wife, Mary Donaldson, have managed to maintain the popularity of the Crown, despite the initial challenges and criticism that arose in their accession to the throne.
On December 31, Margaret II announced her abdication, leaving the throne in the hands of her son. Although the official version attributed the decision to health problems and a long-considered wish, the moment coincided with the controversy unleashed by the images of Federico with Casanova in Madrid. In Spain, there was no shortage of those who speculated about the impact of this scandal on the monarch’s decision, but in Denmark, the people chose to support Margaret II until her last day as queen. Just weeks later, Casanova’s figure faded from the media landscape, without leaving a perceptible mark on the image of the new king.
According to a survey carried out by the TV 2 network on the occasion of the special program The Royal Moments, which reviewed the first year of Frederick’s reign, the monarch has the favor of the majority of citizens. The task was not easy, considering that Denmark has one of the most supported monarchies in Europe. Despite the transition, support for the institution has barely changed: from 78% approval at the beginning of 2024, now 76% of Danes continue to support the monarchy. This slight drop of two points is not considered significant by analysts, who highlight that the change is part of normal variations in public opinion. Even more important is the notable increase in positive perception towards Federico as a royal figure. If a year ago only 29% of those surveyed believed that the then crown prince would be the best representative of the Crown, now 49% consider him the most suitable for the position, exceeding by 12 points the assessment that his mother had before abdicate.
Frederick’s reign began under the shadow of rumors. The so-called “Genevieve scandal” resurfaced briefly when the abdication of Margaret II was announced, but the controversy was left behind thanks to a combination of effective strategies and popular decisions that have strengthened the image of the new monarch. However, not everything was easy. Initial criticism of an excessively long vacation or the use of the royal yacht on their first official trips to Sweden and Norway – when they actually traveled by plane – seemed to threaten to undermine public perception. However, these controversies faded in the face of Frederick’s ability to adapt to the role of king.
One of the keys to this success has been its ability to balance monarchical tradition with a modern vision. Federico has incorporated issues of great social relevance to his agenda, such as the fight against climate change, the promotion of sustainability, gender equality and the rights of women and children. These causes not only connect with the current concerns of Danish society, but also reinforce the relevance of the monarchy in the 21st century. One of the most praised aspects of Frederick’s reign has been his commitment to transparency. The king has implemented new policies related to the gifts received by the Royal Household, ensuring that their management is more accessible and understandable for citizens. Likewise, it has reformed the sponsorship system, seeking to ensure that the organizations with which the monarchy collaborates obtain greater visibility and effective support. These changes have been interpreted as an effort to modernize the institution and bring it closer to the people, something that has been especially valued by the younger generations, traditionally more critical of the monarchy.
Although Frederick has been the main focus of this first year of reign, his wife, Queen Mary, has also played a crucial role. Their charisma and commitment to social causes have been fundamental in strengthening the image of the royal couple as a solid team committed to the well-being of the country. Despite the initial challenges, Federico and Mary Donaldson have managed to successfully overcome their first year as Kings of Denmark. Polls, the stability of the monarchy and the support of the people confirm that they have managed to establish themselves as the new representatives of an institution that continues to be a pillar in Danish society. A promising start to a royal marriage that seems determined to write its own story.
