Gemechu, Niyonsaba and Chepkoech will fight for the victory in the San Silvestre Vallecana

The athletes Tsehay Gemechu, Beatrice Chepkoech and Francine Niyonsaba will form the most outstanding international participation in the women’s event of the next edition of the Nationale-Nederlanden San Silvestre Vallecana, which will be held on December 31 over 10 kilometers, according to what the organizers reported on Tuesday. it’s a statement.

The 24-year-old Ethiopian athlete Tsehay Gemechu arrives in Madrid with extensive experience on asphalt that will allow her to fight to extend Ethiopia’s streak in the race, with Yalemzerf Yehualaw and Degitu Azimeraw as the latest winners.

Gemechu has in her baggage a fourth place in the 2019 world championships in 5,000 meters outdoors, a sixth place in the cross world world championships of the same year, and is the African champion of 10,000 meters. Her personal best in her 10K is 30:15.

In front will be the Kenyan and 3,000 hurdles world champion, Beatrice Chepkoech, who temporarily leaves the track. The athlete, World Cup gold in 2019, is the current world record holder over 3,000 obstacles, and has, among other achievements, a Diamond League overall, a fourth place at the Rio 2016 Games, and a mixed relay world championship with Kenya in 2017 .


The triangle of main contenders for glory in San Silvestre Vallecana is completed by Francine Niyonsaba from Burundi. The 29-year-old athlete is Olympic runner-up in Rio and world runner-up in 2017, as well as two-time indoor world champion, all in 800 meters. She also has a fifth place in the Tokyo Games.

The international participation is completed with Prisca Chesang, already an Olympian with Uganda despite her 19 years, and double bronze in the U20 World Cup in 5,000 meters, and Mahlet Mulugeta, the current 10K champion in Ethiopia, and with a best mark of 31: 47.
